The proposal for Chetak Street, Udaipur, reimagines an underutilized and visually fragmented urban corridor as a structured public realm that balances mobility, commerce, and social interaction. The design transforms a street that previously lacked defined parking, seating, and pedestrian infrastructure into an organized yet lively streetscape with a contemporary identity. Rather than functioning only as a traffic corridor, the street is envisioned as an active civic edge where everyday urban life unfolds. Planters, shaded hawker zones, and small seating pockets create opportunities for pause while maintaining a clear circulation hierarchy. Inspired by the dynamic energy of street markets, the design integrates vendor modules and flexible public spaces within a cohesive spatial framework. Contemporary paving patterns, organized planting, and sculptural elements together establish Chetak Street as a recognizable and vibrant urban landmark.

The design organizes the street into clear functional layers accommodating pedestrians, cyclists, vendors, vehicles, and public transport. Continuous pedestrian pathways and cycle tracks run along the street edge, accompanied by integrated seating and planter modules that soften the urban environment. Dedicated spillover areas for shops and structured hawker modules under tensile shade structures allow vendors to operate without obstructing circulation. A redesigned bus stop with shaded seating improves comfort for commuters. Contemporary paving using paver blocks and exposed concrete creates visual rhythm while guiding movement across zones. Efficient drainage systems, slot drains, and slope management ensure proper water flow, while hardy, low-maintenance plant species provide shade and ecological resilience. Together these interventions transform Chetak Street into a cohesive, functional, and vibrant public streetscape, ultimately earning recognition as the winning competition proposal.
