concept
At The Landmark, the landscape is conceived as a public narrative rather than a decorative foreground—an urban stage that invites movement, pause, and interpretation. Located within one of Gandhinagar’s largest commercial hubs, the project transforms an otherwise irregular central void into a spatial experience driven by symbolism and flow. Inspired by the strategic logic of chess, the landscape introduces the “King” as the central idea—an emblem of control, presence, and orientation. This singular gesture anchors the entire precinct, ensuring that every walk, gathering, or glance eventually converges toward a shared focal moment, reinforcing the identity of the place as both memorable and legible.
design
The design unfolds through bold, sweeping arcs that choreograph movement and carve the central plaza into three interrelated zones. At the heart stands the skeletal chess King, rising from a rhythmic water feature, commanding attention from multiple levels and distances. Encircling this are layered public realms: a flexible celebration and exhibition zone animated by elliptical seating and integrated tree planters, and an interaction stretch that unfolds along the extended arcs with stepped seating, semi-shaded pockets, and quieter corners for informal gatherings. The amphitheatre-like geometry resolves complex junctions while maintaining visual continuity across the plaza. Though distinct in function, all zones blend seamlessly into one cohesive landscape, unified by the central sculpture—an unmistakable landmark that transforms the space into a living, dynamic civic core.
