concept
The project explores the idea of reshaping a flat ground plane into an inhabitable landscape gesture, where the site is treated almost like a fabric that is gently lifted, carved and folded to create spatial experiences. Inspired by Ahmedabad’s evolving urban lifestyle—where community life unfolds between buildings rather than within them—the landscape introduces a continuous undulating ribbon that flows through the centre of the site. This sculpted red form becomes both a spatial and visual anchor, stitching together multiple activity zones while breaking the monotony of conventional podium gardens. Rather than functioning as a static landscape, the intervention transforms the ground into a dynamic terrain that invites exploration, play, pause and social interaction.
design
The design begins by deforming the existing plane, creating a fluid ribbon-like planter that moves across the site and organizes the landscape into distinct yet interconnected pockets. This bold red undulating element holds planting, seating edges and spatial transitions, becoming the central spine of the composition. Around it, a series of landscape zones unfold—an open lawn for informal gatherings, shaded seating pockets beneath trees, and play areas integrated within softer landscape edges. At one end, the ribbon terminates into a water feature framed by a textured wall, creating a calm focal point, while the opposite end transforms into stepped seating, allowing the space to function as a small social amphitheatre. Carefully layered planting, colourful groundcovers and trees create seasonal variation and visual depth, while subtle lighting integrated into edges and steps highlights the sculptural form of the landscape at night. Together, the undulating structure and surrounding gardens establish a contemporary communal landscape where movement, leisure and visual identity are seamlessly interwoven.
